FEMA S-215 Wildland Fire Safety class

In conjunction with the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County, the Greater Valley Center Fire Safe Council announces a new date for the ever-popular S-215 For Fire Safe Councils and CERT / Wildland Fire Safety class.
  The class covers preparing  for a fire, basic fire behavior, and how to keep yourself and others safe during a fire. A field trip to local sites to see examples of what was discussed during the class is included. 
   The class is on  September 23, 2017, @ 9AM - 4PM, at Lilac School, 30109 Lilac Road, Valley Center.
Fire Chief Don Butz will be the lead instructor, with other instructors to be announced.
   There will be no charge as the class is fully funded through a grant by the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County. Lunch will be provided.

The Greater Valley Center Fire Safe Council is sponsoring chipping days across from The Community Center on the following dates:

August 12

October 14

December 9

February 10

April 14

June 9

All chipping days are Saturdays, 9AM - 3PM.

Second Saturday of even numbered months.

Please   no bagged vegetation, and no palm fronds.


All residents are invited to bring cut bushes, branches and yard trimmings to the site for free disposal. The site, as usual, will be the field across from the Community Center on Lilac Road.

The event is free to everyone.

We ask that you do not bring bagged yard waste or palm fronds as they cannot be handled by the chippers. Branches up to 6 inches in diameter can be chipped iftheyarefresh.

Chips are available to be blown directly into trailers or other means of transport of your choice. If you intend to have chips blown directly into a truck bed, please bring some means to protect the rear windows such as a sheet of plywood or heavy cardboard cut to fit into your truck. The chips are sharp and can damage windows and window gaskets, as well as scratch paint.
