Greater Valley Center Fire Safe Council

Valley Center Fire Protection District in conjunction with the Greater Valley Center Fire Safe Council will be hosting a free community event  on June 9,  9am to 2 pm, to better prepare for the fast approaching wildfire season. Learn from keynote speakers and experts on how to keep your family, home and business fire safe.

There will be booths and raffle prizes throughout the day.  A box lunch will be provided. 

900 -1000:   Steve Vanderburg from SDG&E: The Science of Predictive Services and What Happens Behind the Curtain When the Power has to be Shut Down to prevent Wildfire.

1000-1100:    Sandra Younger, author of the Fire Outside My Window will give a reality check on how little time you may have to get out and the importance of Resilience when your world is lost to Wildfire.

1100-1200: Panel Discussion: "The Lilac Fire" from the perspective of the First Arriving Units: Animal Services, Cal Fire and North County Fire ( Laura Ward, John Choi, Greg Wilson, Nick Schuler, Nick Brown, Cal Hendrie)

Working Lunch: Sean Scott,  author of the Red Book to Recovery will educate the community on Recovery and how to protect yourself from those who would take advantage.

1:00- 2:00: Chief Clay Howe, USFS,  will discuss how to harden your residence and how to create a defensible space around your home to better the chances of a successful outcome
